Ingredients

  • 8 cups peeled and sliced apples (I used Granny Smith)
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup water
Crumb Topping
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour (I used whole wheat pastry flour)
  • 2/3 cup Earth Balance Buttery Spread
  • 1/2 cup oats
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a 9×13 baking dish, spread the sliced apples.  Pour the water over the apples.  Sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

In a bowl, add the flour, sugar, brown sugar, and Earth Balance.  Work together until crumbly, using a pastry blender. Stir the oats into the crumb mixture.  At this point, Pryce said, “It’s starting to get pretty.”

Spread crumb mixture over apples. Bake uncovered about 50 minutes, until apples are tender and crumb topping is crispy or browned.

My mom used to have apple crisp baking in the oven when my sister and I got home from school.  Today, I had apple crisp baking in the oven when Jadon got home from school.  What a great tradition to carry on.
