Green Smoothie

Green Smoothie

Green Smoothie
2 servings:

  • 1banana
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 cup Silk organic unsweetened soy milk
  • 2 Tbsp. ground flax seed
  • 5 oz. spinach (which you can’t taste at all!)
  • optional–1 to 2 scoops Twinlab Vege Fuel soy protein powder or 1/4 cup Trader Joe’s peanut flour (if I add protein powder, I also add 1/4 cup water)
  • if it’s too thick, add more water

I also add 1 Tbsp. flax seed oil to my smoothie.  Sweet Daddy, and our boys (Jadon and Pryce) all love this for breakfast.  We drink it most mornings.

After my breakfast (after Pryce finished my smoothie when I wasn’t looking), I decided to get ready for grocery shopping.

Pryce always asks me why I wear makeup.  Hmmm…how to answer that question without making it sound like a fun thing for HIM to try…Ummm…

Me:  “Because I like it.”
Pryce:  “But, why?”
Me:  “Because it makes mommy feel girly.”
Pryce:  “Daddy and I wear hats, but why do you wear makeup ?”
Me:  “Because it makes mommy feel pretty.”
Pryce:  “But, why?”
Me:  “Just because.”

It usually goes something like that.  After Pryce’s interrogation, we went shopping.  While out and about, I started asking a lot of my own “why” questions.

Questions like…
Why does it take an hour to buy 4 things at Costco?–
Because it takes a lot of time to get around to every sample table and get my share of the vegan-friendly goods.
Because Pryce has to use the bathroom at least once while we’re there and usually while we’re in the opposite corner of the store.
Because I always have to stop and browse through the books.  (This is, after all, where I bought Skinny Bitch, which I knew I needed to read, the second I flipped through it).
Why?…Just because.

Why did Costco hide their Boca burgers where I couldn’t find them?

Because they like to keep things interesting.
Because they want you to wander around the same aisles 19 times in a row, in hopes that you might discover a new product that you just have to try.
Because they’re pranksters and their store employees are in on the joke, which explains why I was led on a wild-goose chase by an otherwise nice employee.
Why?…Just because.

Why doesn’t Costco carry the Greek Olive Sabra hummus?

Because they have something against olives.
Because having original and garlic flavored Sabra hummus is really enough of a variety, right?
Because they haven’t tasted it yet and don’t know how delicious it is.
Why?…Just because.

I had other questions once we arrived back at home.  Have you ever walked into your house and asked yourself “why does it stink smell like that”?  I discovered the stinky culprit and it was none other than a cantaloupe from our garden, that we had harvested and brought inside.  The cantaloupes we’ve grown this year are the sweetest, best-tasting cantaloupes I’ve ever eaten.  WHY, then, do they smell like hot garbage?

All that talk about garbage makes you hungry, doesn’t it?  Me too.

My lunch today was my favorite salad:

My Favorite Salad:

  • Romaine salad mix
  • Diced Fuji apple
  • Black beans
  • Sliced green onions (also from our garden, but a much better aroma than the cantaloupe)
  • Bac’n Pieces
  • Walnuts
  • French’s French Fried Onions
  • Balsamic vinegar

You might be asking yourself why I put French’s French Fried Onions on my salad.  Don’t worry–I was asking myself the same question while eating my salad!  I’ll stick with fried onions on my green bean casserole from now on, NOT my salad.
